The Concept

I am compiling a book of stories written by guides who work on the Salmon River (Middle Fork, Main & Lower). I’m looking for genuine, truthful tales that reflect our lives out there.

This book is an invitation for you to tell your story, whatever it may be.

Who can submit a story?

Anyone who currently guides, or has ever guided, for any commercial company, current or past, on the Salmon River, including the Middle Fork, Main, and

Lower Salmon.

What kind of story?

Anything from hilarious camp encounters to memorable & heartfelt moments.

They can be about overcoming stigmas or physical barriers or be an insightful glimpse into the life of a temporary resident of this special place.

Even funny groover stories are welcome!

These are your stories so, the choice is yours.

Stories can be humorous or bittersweet, short stories or prose, as little as one page or longer and more involved.

Submissions can be typed or handwritten (on a napkin, an envelope, diary paper, etc).

A selection of the handwritten notes will be kept in their original form & included as photographs.

The only limitations are as follows:

Must be true & original work

No more than 2000 words

I will not publish anything:

Overtly violent or sexual

Slanderous or incriminating

Personally heroic

What to include with your submission:

  • A title

  • Your name or nickname (as you like to be called)

  • Salmon River section(s) & year

  • First & last name with contact information for followup, should your story be chosen to publish.

  • Note: Anonymous stories are accepted. However, I will need to contact you.

What else:

Guides whose stories are chosen will be asked to participate in the editing process.

Art & Photo submissions are also accepted: Please include a description of the photo including: what/who is in the photo, the year, backstory, and photograph credit. Or include title & description of the artwork.
